Guggul, Commiphora mukul, is an herbal supplement derived from a resinous sap of the mukul Myrrh tree, obtained when incisions are made in its bark. This sap has been used as a part of Ayurveda for over 2500 years (Wang, et al., 239)-India’s traditional medicine, based on principles of a balance between mind, body, and spirit. Guggul EH is a product with broad benefits for many, since it can be effectively applied to a wide variety of conditions, including obesity and arthritis as it has weight-reducing, cholesterol and lipid-lowering effects, and anti-inflammatory properties. It also serves a cardiovascular protective function and supports appropriate HDL to LDL cholesterol ratios.
